Hoje, nada de materialismo, venho antes propor uma leitura risonha, escrita num inglês claro e preciso, com um certo tom parental e familiar... Um livro que descobri por acaso, mas que foi editado no verão deste ano, por isso é bastante recente. Pertence à autora do site com o mesmo nome e trata, claro está, da cultura gótica... Aborda todos os temas essenciais, nomeadamente, porque é que não devemos deixar os nossos amigos vestirem-se como o Corvo e porque razão é que há "não-góticos" (aquela raça nervosa que é gótica em tudo o que faz, ouve, diz, vê, veste e outros verbos, mas jura a pés juntos que de gótica não tem nada...).  Também é um bom livro para quem convive de perto com pessoal mais "darkly inclined" e não sabe bem o que fazer em relação a isso. Essencialmente, um livro cheio de bom senso, cultura e algum humor pelas entrelinhas.

When the Lady of the Manners discovered the existence of the whole Gothic subculture, she clapped her hands with glee. Eventually the Lady of the Manners came to realise that excellent clothes were not, contrary to popular opinion, a substitute for excellent manners, and that being a Black-Clad-Freak didn't have to mean being depressed and snarly. (Witty, sarcastic, and possibly a touch cynical, yes. Mean-spirited, sullen, and rude, no.) Since then, the Lady of the Manners has spent a not-inconsiderable amount of time trying to gently persuade others in her chosen subculture that being Goth and being polite is much, much more subversive than just wearing black t-shirts with 'edgy' sayings on them."
